About Huxley Legaspi

SEO Specialist based in Cebu City. I got here without a marketing degree, stayed because the technical work turned out to be the interesting part, and spend most mornings swimming, cycling, or running before work.

01 How I got here

My degree is in medical technology. I have never taken a marketing class.

I started doing SEO before I finished that degree. Someone I knew put me forward for an entry-level role at a US edtech company and I got it with no experience at all. At the time it was a way to earn money alongside my studies. The plan was still medicine.

The plan changed slowly. I kept finding the work interesting well past the point where I expected to get bored of it. Two years in, I decided to treat it as a career rather than a side income, which meant bootcamps, a lot of self-study, and applying for jobs I wasn’t sure I would get.

One of them came through. I joined a web development agency in Australia in a full-stack SEO role. It was a short chapter but a dense one. I worked across strategy and execution rather than one or the other, and that is where I learned how much of the execution workload is decided by structural choices made earlier. Get the architecture right and there is less to fix later.

After that I joined a US SEO agency, where I moved deeper into on-page and technical work: site health monitoring across a large client portfolio, crawl diagnostics, redirect cleanup, migrations. That is where I stopped describing myself as someone who fell into SEO and started describing myself as someone who is good at it.

The medical technology training was not wasted, for what it’s worth. Diagnostics is diagnostics. You gather the data before you form the theory, you rule things out in order, and you resist the urge to treat the first symptom you notice.

02 Swim, bike, run

I was an asthmatic kid with a weak body. I could not keep up with other boys my age, and endurance sport was the last thing I would have predicted for myself.

It started when I moved out of my parents’ house to live on my own in Lapu-Lapu, with the dogs. I was working from home and my workload at the time was light, so I started running to fill the hours. Fun runs at first. Five kilometres, sometimes ten.

Then I bought a road bike. Riding it was good, but what actually hooked me was the maintenance. Cleaning it, learning to service it, keeping everything running smoothly. I have noticed this about myself more than once now: I tend to like the upkeep more than the event. Not long after, I found duathlon and entered my first one.

A few months later my girlfriend and I moved to a small place in a gated subdivision in Compostela. It had a community lap pool. I had never liked swimming, but having a pool a short walk from my door changed that faster than I expected. I took lessons, got comfortable in the water, and decided to go for the full triathlon.

Swim, bike, run, usually before the sun is properly up. It has taught me more about pacing long projects than any productivity system has. Endurance sport and technical SEO reward the same thing: showing up consistently and fixing small problems before they compound.

03 The dogs

There are four of them. Maya is a shih poo. Narra is a golden retriever. Paris is Narra’s son. Ori is a rottweiler.

They came with me from Lapu-Lapu to Compostela and they have made every rest day less restful than planned. Excellent company. Terrible colleagues.
